What is Conjunctivitis?
Conjunctivitis is more commonly known as Pink Eye. Pink Eye causes a great deal of redness and itching in the eye, sometimes accompanied by drainage and a burning sensation. The three types of Pink Eye are Allergic Conjunctivitis, Bacterial Conjunctivitis, and Viral Conjunctivitis.
Allergic Conjunctivitis typically occurs in the Spring and Fall when allergens such as pollen, ragweed, and grasses are most productive. If you suffer from Allergic Conjunctivitis, it is helpful to filter as many allergens from the home as possible and take an over the counter antihistamine.
Bacterial conjunctivitis is relatively easy to treat with antibiotics, usually in the form of an eye drop. When taken as prescribed the symptoms of Pink Eye should subside in just a few days.
Viral Conjunctivitis is more difficult to treat, but there are medications that can be given to ease the discomfort of the symptoms.
