Dr. Sebastian Heersink was the first surgeon in Alabama to offer the IC-8® Apthera™ lens to his cataract patients. Dr. Heersink introduced this new lens option to patients in early March and recently performed his 100th IC-8® Apthera™ Lens implant. With the power of small aperture technology, the IC-8® Apthera™ lens is a replacement lens exclusively designed to help cataract patients with and without a low amount of astigmatism to achieve a clear, continuous range of vision from near to far. The Apthera IOL is intended for use in just one eye and is paired with a monofocal or monofocal toric (astigmatism-correcting) IOL in the fellow eye.
“There is nothing on the market like the Apthera IOL, and nobody in the United States has implanted more Apthera than Dr. Heersink. At Bausch & Lomb, we are so excited that Dr. Heersink is leading the way with the Apthera not only in Alabama but in the Southeast.”

“We have been waiting several years for a lens solution that provides excellent vision across distance, intermediate, and near and the IC-8® Apthera™ is delivering for our patients. Patients are loving their vision and exceeding our expectations for both post-refractive and virgin corneas. The implantable pinhole IOL doesn’t affect peripheral vision, retinal diagnostics, and most do not repeat a light intensity difference, even in low lighting. We are very grateful for this technology.”
